Building a new career

More than 20 Marsh Farm residents took the opportunity recently to find out more about careers in the construction industry at a series of ‘taster sessions’ held at the Wauluds Bank Housing Development site on the estate./p>

Turning Corners Plus, the Community Employment Project from Marsh Farm Community Development Trust, in conjunction with Parrott Building Contractors and Aldwyck Housing Association, are hosting the sessions entitled, An Introduction to Working in the Construction Industry, to give an insight into the industry and the types of jobs on offer within it.

Attendees included final year pupils from Lea Manor High School as well as local residents interested in careers in construction. The sessions included a tour of the development and the chance to experience the modern methods of construction in use today. They were also able to see first hand the different trades at work on the site.

Peter Holmes, who coordinated this initiative, said: “This is another way in which Turning Corners Plus is helping people in Marsh Farm to get into work or look at new career opportunities. This first session was a great success and more are planned in the near future.”
