Current Projects
Health & Fitness Centre
The new health and fitness, which includes a state of the art gym, was part funded by MFCDT to encourage healthier lifestyles. It is based at the Lea Manor Recreation Centre, Marsh Farm.
The project funds an outreach worker, Ian Hobdell, who is out and about the estate encouraging residents to take up exercise and to become more active in the way that suits them best. He is happy to work with local groups and individuals to develop new exercise programmes, walking groups and fun fitness activities.
Teen Learning Centre
This is a holistic health service, run by a number of agencies, for students at Lea Manor High school. It is a regular lunchtime drop-in that provides a range of information and support services to young people including advice on bullying, abuse, sexual and physical health and drug misuse.
A GP provides regular confidential one to one support and advice to the students enabling them to access professional advice and guidance as they need it.
Puke
Puke provides advice and support to young people aged 9-24, who are experiencing drug and alcohol related problems. This project has been extended to include outreach and support for adults and provides a confidential one to one service and counselling to individuals.
Stop Smoking Project
Marsh Farm has its very own Stop Smoking Advisor, Marlene, who runs a weekly drop in clinic every Monday morning at the Marsh Farm Health Centre for those wishing to quit smoking. Local residents have also been trained as advisors to provide help and support to the community and Marlene would be pleased to train more local people who feel that they could talk to and support people to Quit .
Sports Coordinator
The Trust has a designated Sports Coordinator, Martin Isles, who works closely with partners including the Princes Trust and Active Luton. The programme is now focusing on young people and encouraging residents to use the new fitness centre.
(Shared Care) Substance Misuse Project
A threshold drug treatment service providing an outreach worker for Marsh Farm.
